my life feels just like a dream i'm walkin on air LIVIN ON A PRAYERi look up at the sky and i feel like a millionaire tag: paige as callie word count: 750 notes: hi this sucks ):Hayden Boss was one of those people who would often times wake up in the morning feeling a certain way and then simply not act upon it. There were many times when the twenty three year old would wake up with a bad feeling coiled in the pit of his stomach, but oftentimes he would simply turn a blind eye to it and live out his day, doing whatever it was that he was doing. For whatever reason though, when he woke up at six fifteen, he noted that he just felt flat out sick. Like he was going to puke sick, which was really strange since his gag reflex was kind of defective, and his body had issues with letting him do that. He checked for fever and once he was satisfied that he was, in fact, the very definition of health he changed for his usual 5k run that he had recently been favoring.
Hoss had figured that the feeling would pass, after all it normally did, but when he had returned to the bus where he had been living, sweaty, tired, refreshed, he just felt even sicker. Seriously, what was wrong with him? He couldn’t remember the last time he had been physically ill; this was ridiculous. He took a quick shower, dressed, and as he stood in front of the small mirror, brushing his teeth, he decided that since he already felt like shit, he was going to go get a coffee and some sort of overly sugary pastry that was covered in frosting. A cinnamon roll sounded amazing, now that he thought about it, and with that, his decision was made.
He knew there was a small, cute little café near by and he figured that that would be the perfect place to start. He grabbed his laptop (after all, the man had work to do), his keys and his wallet and was soon on his way, enjoying the fresh air even with the dull ache twisting its way around his gut. Honestly, he was seriously thinking of shoving his finger down his throat in a desperate attempt to make himself feel better; Hoss did not have time to get sick. There was no ifs ands or buts about it. He knew that that wouldn’t solve anything, so he would simply have to deal with the weird feeling until it finally went away.
He spotted the café and could feel himself relax slightly as he pushed open the door of the building, deeply inhaling the pungent scent of coffee. To be honest, Hoss would just be happy sitting in the café without food or coffee because the atmosphere was relaxing and he was able to actually sit down and think; something that for, whatever reason, was not coming easy to him lately. He felt like a little kid again; he had too much energy and he had no idea what to do with it. He knew he could always use that as an excuse to go run more, but he had recently pulled something in his leg and his doctor had told him to take it easy. …Not that Hoss was actually ‘taking it easy’ with rather hard three mile runs, but it was that or nothing. He didn’t know how to be less intense; when it came to his body, Hoss could have nothing but the best.
Which was probably why he found himself smiling at the irony of the fact that he was so desperate for something unhealthy that he would end up at a fucking café for sugar. He ordered the cinnamon roll and a medium latte and quietly went to sit down, setting his computer on the table. He didn’t open it up right away though; no, instead he set his food on top of the closed computer and he sighed, letting his shoulders slouch and his eyes drift shut for a brief moment. The feeling was still going strong and he absentmindedly rubbed at his stomach for a brief moment, hoping that the pressure would help like it used to when he was a child. But no, of course not. He wouldn’t be that lucky today. He heard his name called and he stood up, walking over to get his coffee, and was soon settled back in his chair, letting his eyes focus on a point far ahead of him. Hoss was tempted to zone out, but he knew better than that. So he decided to dig into his sugary treat and let himself just have a chill day; there was nothing wrong with that, right? Right. At least, that’s what he thought.

i'm sitting here wishing for something that's missing. callista laid awake; staring up at the ceiling of the tour bus as she stayed cozy under the covers. katie slept soundly next to her. the girl lifted a hand to her face, rubbing her eyes gently. she gave a small yawn, then turned over on her side and closed her eyes once more. all she wanted was to sleep more and never wake up. she was beyond exhausted; juggling running, taking care of katie, and band stuff all made callie tired and sometimes extremely worn-out. but after another 30 minutes without another second of sleep, callie opened her eyes and sighed heavily. she sat up, watching katie sleep for a moment. she couldn't help but smile a little bit, before slowly sliding off the bed and standing up.
callie stretched her arms up above her head, getting up on her tiptoes as she yawned once more. it seemed no one was around at the moment, and she frowned. she got down on her knees, rummaging through her bag for something to wear for the day. cal finally decided on a pair of dark skinny jeans and a white tank top, quickly getting changed. she was as quiet as possible, trying not to wake up her sleeping daughter. the small five year old stirred every once in a while, making callista pause and turn to watch her daughter. but katie didn't wake up. when callie was done dressing, she walked over to the small refrigerator and opened it. "ralph, i love you so much..." the girl mumbled, grinning as she pulled out a plastic bag of baby carrots. she opened it, taking out a couple of the carrots before resealing the bag and putting it back into the refrigerator.
beginning to munch on the carrots, callista walked towards her phone, checking to see if she had any text messages. there were a couple twitter updates, and one text from her sister. callie didn't bother to respond, figuring autumn would probably end up calling later on that day. "good morning, momma." callie turned, smiling as she watched her daughter sit up in bed and look at her. "morning, katie. carrot?" callie asked, sitting down on the edge of the bed and holding out a baby carrot to the small girl. katie grinned, taking the carrot and beginning to munch on it. "get dressed. mommy needs coffee." callie told her, kissing katie's forehead lightly before heading into the bathroom while katie stood up and looked for clothing to wear.
it was maybe another half hour before callie and katie were heading to a nearby cafe. callie held onto katie's tiny hand, so the little girl wouldn't wander into the street or anything like that. eventually katie began to whine about being tired of walking, and callie paused, bending down and pulling her daughter into her arms and holding katie on her hip as she walked into the cafe. she walked towards the cashier, ordering for a black coffee (she was picky about how much sugar and cream was put into her coffee, so she preffered to do it herself). callie also ordered a blueberry muffin for katie, who was beginning to whine about being hungry.
callie sat katie down in a chair, trying to get the small girl settled. she was just sitting down when she heard their ordered called, and she stood up once more, sighing as she walked up to the counter and grabbed her coffee and katie's muffin. she walked back to the table and almost immediately, katie began to bite into the muffin. callie watched her a moment, then glanced around the cafe as she began to gulp at her coffee. she needed caffeine, and she needed it fast. however, callie nearly choked on her coffee as her gaze landed on an all too familiar face. god, it couldn't be him. it couldn't be hayden. callie couldn't help but stare for a few moments, before she looked back at katie. "katie, use a napkin. you're a mess." callie told her daughter, brushing her hair out of her face.

my life feels just like a dream i'm walkin on air LIVIN ON A PRAYERi look up at the sky and i feel like a millionaire tag: paige as callie word count: 847 notes: omg i haven't written a post this fast in a while... lmao i'm just excitedHe would be a liar if he said that he didn’t enjoy the quiet and solitude. Sure, Hayden had once enjoyed the loud, crazy rock star lifestyle, but as of late, silence was a gift. It probably had to do with the fact that he was just more tired than usual; yeah, that had to be it. Every once in a while he went through periods of time where he just couldn’t sleep, but it hadn’t happened for…well, a good two or three years. Whatever, whatever happened, happened. That’s the way he looked at it. So for now, he just soaked in the quiet and eventually opened up his computer after moving his cinnamon roll (which had honestly been extremely disappointing to him and thus had resulted in him carving out the middle of it) behind it. He fired up Excel, knowing full well that there was some scheduling changes he had recently been told about and the best thing for Hayden to do was put them down and then find the band and tell them what, exactly, was going on. There were definitely times when he hated his new job; there was a hell of a lot more responsibility and stress involved which were two things Hayden had never exactly been good at handling.
Hoss sighed again, reaching into his pocket for his phone where he opened up one of the recent texts he had received with a few short taps. He skimmed the message, wrote the appropriate text in the document he had open and then absentmindedly reached for his coffee, taking a long awaited drink from it. He had been addicted to coffee since he was a teenager in high school; it was just one of those habits he didn’t plan on breaking until there was no possible way for coffee to be made.
After another few minutes of his work, Hoss could already tell it was going to be futile. When it came to him, there was no point in working if he couldn’t focus and he immediately snapped the computer shut and he leaned back against his chair, rubbing his eyes with the heels of his palms. As he sat up, just about ready to get up and leave, he thought he had heard a very, very familiar voice. He snapped up, eyes grazing the room until he came to a very, very familiar face and he could feel that feeling in his stomach just get all the more worse. Fuck his life. Fuck it hard. He hadn’t seen Callie in five years – five – why the hell did she decide to show up now? Of all the people… He caught himself staring and immediately dropped his gaze, using the plastic fork he had been given to poke at the remains of his breakfast. This was really not okay with him; sure he had really, really liked her (probably loved her, he knew that much god damn it), but after their last fight he really didn’t want to face her. And he had a sneaking suspicion that she had already spotted him; she had always been good at that sort of thing if he remembered correctly. He cautiously brought his eyes up again, grazing over the form of his ex-girlfriend and that was when he spotted the little girl. Well, either she was baby sitting or she was married…or she had been stupid enough to get knocked up. The second option, the one of her being married, was the one he sort of hoped for. That would at least give him a little bit of courage to go up and say hi; she wouldn’t be his problem anymore if she was married to someone else. He could just go over, smile, say hi, see how she was doing and what was up and then just go back to his bus and his friends and just…not have to worry about her ever again. That wasn’t too bad, right? He had done a pretty good job of not having to see her in the last five years so he had to say, his record wasn’t bad. God, he sounded like such a dick. Whatever, he needed to leave and he knew full well that there was no way that would be happening if he didn’t stop for a minute to acknowledge her. Plus, he had to admit, he was pretty curious why the hell she would be toting some kid around. So Hoss stood up, gathering his computer, his coffee and his half eaten cinnamon roll which he quickly threw away. He took a deep breath to calm his nerves, which were surprisingly jittery, and cautiously made his way over to where his ex-girlfriend and the little girl sat. “Callie?” He asked, pleased at the fact at how even and normal his voice sounded. “Hey.” He offered a small, somewhat tentative smile. “I saw you; just wanted to stop and say hi. You know. It’s been awhile.” And it had, of course. Five years was a very long time to not see somebody after all.

i'm sitting here wishing for something that's missing. callie looked at katie, watching her daughter munch on the blueberry muffin in an incredibly messy manner. she pulled a napkin out of the pile she'd grabbed, and handed one to katie. "kathryn paige, eat a little slower. you'll give yourself a stomach ache." callie said, her tone slightly firm but not mean. katie picked up the napkin, set down the muffin, and wiped the napkin over her face. callie chuckled quietly, shaking her head slightly as she took a long gulp of the hot coffee, ignoring the burning sensation she got as she swallowed. it felt kind of good, and callie could already feel the caffeine working it's way into her system. she smiled at her daughter, giving another small chuckle as katie's face was immediately covered in crumbs.
callie stole another glance at hayden, frowning for a split moment as she looked back at the table. the girl bit down on her bottom lip, sighing as she took another sip of the coffee in her hand. it was definitely hayden; it looked exactly like him. he hadn't seemed to change a bit, at least not physically. callie hadn't even attempted to contact him after the break-up, not in any way. not even when she'd found out she was pregnant with his child. what was he doing here? the possibility of him being on tour crossed her mind and callista's eyes widened slightly. "something wrong, momma?" katie asked, and callie shook her head and forced a smile on her lips. "hurry up, sweetie. mommy's got stuff to do." she said, swallowing a bit more of the coffee.
callista heard the familiar voice and froze for a moment or two. she smiled as she looked up at hoss. "hi, hoss." callie said, trying to make her voice sound cheerful and like she was surprised to see him there; like she hadn't noticed him before he'd walked over to her. "yeah. about five years. how've you been?" callista asked him, standing up now and wrapping her arm around his neck in a slight half-hug sort of embrace. she pulled back, glancing at katie. katie was staring at hayden with a curious expression, while still munching at the remains of her blueberry muffin. "momma, who's that?" katie asked, looking up at hoss still. "an old friend, katie. finish your muffin." callie answered her daughter, before looking back at hoss. "so. do you live around here still? i mean, after all, this is pretty much our hometown." the girl inquired, forcing a quiet laugh out of her mouth.
callie took another gulp of the caffeine, hoping this was all just some super crazy dream that she was going to wake up from soon. if that was the truth, callista was definitely hoping to wake up soon. she'd spent the past five years with a constant reminder of her and hoss' relationship - that reminder being katie - and now she actually had to face the boy himself. her mind wandered back to the possibility of hayden being on the tour. then again, that wasn't likely, was it? maybe it wasn't... he had been in a band, right? was his band still together? callista's mind raced, and she was just waiting for hoss' voice to pull her thoughts to a sudden stop. she hoped it would be soon; she didn't want to think about the possibility of hoss being on tour any further, but she just couldn't stop. what if he was on tour? god, that'd just be a complete nightmare.
callie was still waiting to wake up from this nightmare. but she was pretty sure she would've already woken up if this was just her dreaming, so that hope of waking up to find out this wasn't reality was becoming less and less by the second. this was reality, and callista just had to face that. and face hayden. there was a possibility he wasn't on tour. after all, this was their hometown. where'd they began. new york. such good memories, except, you know, her parents disowning her when she found out she was pregnant. hayden knew none of this information. in fact, she doubted he'd even realized her and her family had moved away after graduation and their break-up. callie felt her heart sank as memories of them together rushed at her, memories she hadn't recalled in years.

my life feels just like a dream i'm walkin on air LIVIN ON A PRAYERi look up at the sky and i feel like a millionaire tag: paige as callie word count: 813 notes: they're so awk and cute B|It was strange, feeling Callie’s arms around him again. It had been an extremely long time since he had last felt an embrace that was so comforting and so right, but he full well knew that he had blown that chance five years ago. What had they even been fighting about in the first place? He couldn’t even remember; it probably had to do with the fact he was going on tour or his music or something. It was stupid, now that he thought about it. Really stupid. Regardless, he wrapped an arm around her slim frame togive her a small squeeze before releasing her.“Yeah, five years.
” Hoss echoed, shrugging. “ Like I said, it’s been awhile.” How had he been? Five years was a really long time to cover in a statement that vague. So, he settled with what he knew would go over well. “ I’ve been pretty good, actually. How about you? How have you been?” The steady gaze of the little girl was really unnerving, Hoss wasn’t going to lie. When he heard her small voice inquire to who he was, he decided that he may as well introduce himself to her. So he crouched down so that he was eye level with her and smiled. “ Hi, Katie, right?” He asked, using the name he had just heard Callie use. “ My name is Hoss. But since you’re the cutest little girl I’ve ever seen, you can call me Hayden. You’re a big girl; how old are you?” Yeah, she was seriously really adorable, he wasn’t going to lie. Deep down, Hoss liked kids. He always had; it probably stemmed from the fact that he was a good four, four and a half years older than his little sister. He knew how to deal with them somewhat and when they were behaving, kids weren’t that bad at all. Once he was through speaking to Katie, he straightened back up and turned his attention to Callie. “ She’s cute.” He said, simply, nodding down toward the little girl. She also seemed like a polite little kid; since she was obviously Callie’s, Hoss could honestly say that Callie had done a good job raising the girl from the impression that he had just received from her. “ Yeah, sort of. I moved to Chicago about four years ago and did a lot of traveling ‘cause of tour and stuff. I ended up in Long Island about a year or so ago. It’s nice. I can keep an eye on my mom and sister when I’m not touring with the kids I’m managing for.” Okay, so maybe that was a little more detailed than he had originally planned on telling Callie but hey, she had always been really easy for him to talk to, which had been part of the reason why he had even asked her out in the first place. “ Yeah, so, uh. Are you still living around here? You kind of just disappeared off the face of the planet.” Oh, Hayden knew she had a reason for just disappearing, but he had heard rumors from mutual friends that had said her family had moved after they had graduated. He had kind of just shoved them to the back of his mind; after all, deep down he had been really hurt after they had broken up and he did want to know what she had been up to. Eventually he had just forced himself to think she had settled somewhere nice and got a better boyfriend than him and was just living her life the way she should have been in a way that her parents would have loved. He could remember how strict her parents sounded and how he had never been allowed to meet them, even though he had pressed and asked her to. He could also remember being told that her parents would have not approved of him for whatever reason, which kind of hurt since it was like he never even got the chance. But whatever, he knew how important it was to Callie to keep her parents happy, and it made him happy to think that everyone else was happy, end of story. Maybe it was just wishful thinking, but it really did help him sleep at night and really, that was all that was important to him. “ But hey, it’s good to see you again. You loo-you seem like you’ve been doing great.” Oops, he had to be careful with what he said; she did look great. She always looked great, but it just seemed weird to compliment her on her looks when it had been five years since he had last spoken to her. At least they were being civil to each other; it seemed like they had both matured and maybe, just maybe, they might see each other again sooner than another five years because of it. i'm sitting here wishing for something that's missing. callie felt her heart skip a beat when she felt him squeeze her lightly against his body, kind of like old times. she smiled again, this time a geniune smile. she took another gulp of her coffee, the caffeine beginning to work it's wonders on the girl. it really had been a while since she'd last seen hoss. they hadn't exactly ended on great terms. in fact, they'd ended up pretty damn shitty terms. as he remarked that he'd been pretty good, callie nodded a little bit in acknowledgement. "i've been doing good. doing good." callie replied, smiling. she had been doing good, despite her parents disowning her and her having to move to live with her aunt since she couldn't afford a place of her own, not with a baby on the way. but honestly, katie was the best thing that had happened to her.
she'd lost hayden's number, considering she'd deleted it from her phone like an idiot after they'd broken up. so she had no way of contacting him to tell him she was having his child. now, callie was practically a wreck. katie looked so much like hoss, it was easy to tell she was his child. at least it was easy to tell to callie. she watched in silence as hoss talked to katie. katie smiled at him. "yeah. katie." she said, giggling quietly as she finished off the last bites of her muffin. "it's nice to meet you hayden." she beamed as he called her a big girl. "i just turned five." she said to hayden, bouncing in her chair. the little girl grinned up at him, wiping her face and hands with the napkin. katie pushed her chair out, moving to callie's side and clinging to her mother. callie stroked katie's bouncy, dark-blond hair.
as hoss commented about katie being cute, callie smiled. she's yours, of course she's cute. callie thought, but didn't dare to speak the words she'd been thinking. callie felt katie tugging on her jacket and sighed softly, once more bending over and pulling the small girl into her arms. katie rested on callie's hip, holding onto callie's coffee so her mother didn't have to worry about it. callie was kind of hoping and praying that hoss would catch onto the fact that katie was his kid. i mean, hoss was a smart guy; couldn't he put together the pieces? callie smiled as hoss answered her question about whether or not he still lived in the area. her heart nearly stopped as he said he had been touring with a band he'd been managing. so his band had broken up. "i'm guessing your band broke up?" she asked, biting her lip softly. "are you, uh, touring now?" callie asked, tilting her head to the side a little bit.
"oh. me? uh, no. not really. after graduation my family and i moved away to some town in new jersey. i wasn't there long before i found out i was... having katie. my parents were... disappointed to say the least so i went to live with my aunt in pennsylvannia." callie stopped, realizing she had just been rambling... a lot. she shrugged slightly, taking the coffee cup from katie and gulping down the last drops of caffeinated beverage that was left in the cup. "can you throw the cup out for mommy, please?" callie requested as she set katie down on the ground. katie grinned. "of course, momma." she said, skipping to the trash can. callie watched her, before looking back at hayden. "now i'm touring around the country, selling t-shirts, bracelets and bags for one of my friend's bands." she said, shrugging. callie smiled. she heard him comment about it being good to see her again and she seemed to be doing good. "it's good to see you, too. still fit, i see." callie said with a small chuckle.

my life feels just like a dream i'm walkin on air LIVIN ON A PRAYERi look up at the sky and i feel like a millionaire tag: paige as callie word count: 831 notes: haha don't worry about itThere was something overly familiar about Katie’s appearance and it had Hayden’s mind spinning. Under normal circumstances, the twenty three year old didn’t really pay attention to how people looked unless they were exceptionally good looking. But he had seen something in Katie’s small face that just didn’t sit right with him. For being Callie’s daughter, he honestly didn’t notice much similarity with her mother; he just kept seeing a female kid version of himself and it was really, really unnerving. There was no way in hell that Katie could be his kid; if she was, then Callie had been a crazy bitch for not telling him. This whole five year later thing? Yeah, not cool. But he didn’t have the want to get mad at her for keeping this from him, if in fact it was true. The appearance thing had to be a coincidence, right? Right? He was almost done convincing himself of that when Katie told him that she was five and he felt himself give the small girl a shaky smile and he took a deep breath. Coincidence. This had to be coincidence. God he prayed it was. He wasn’t ready to be a dad; even though Katie was an extremely cute, well behaved, mannered little girl, Hayden wasn’t sure he wanted to accept the responsibility that came along with being a father.
Callie’s voice caught his attention and it was a rather sore subject for him, so he shrugged. “No, they’re still doing their thing and being famous and all that. I left two years ago; sick of the way things were going, you know?
” God that band…it was some of the best years of his life, but fuck by the time he left they had been a bunch of obnoxious tools. Hoss knew the behavior had worn off on him; after all, he was definitely not as nice and sweet as he used to be. If anything, he was meaner. But the music hadn’t been fun anymore; he had been losing interest. In his apartment back in Long Island, he still had his bass sitting in his room and sometimes, he wished he hadn’t left and he could still be doing what he loved. He wouldn’t be here right now, talking to his ex girlfriend, who had a kid who could very well be his. “ Yeah, I’m touring right now, actually. Gotta keep those kids in line, you know?” He chuckled lightly at that, knowing full well that he wasn’t their babysitter and that they could do whatever the hell they wanted as long as what Hoss wanted done was completed before they did their thing. As Callie spoke about what had happened to her, Hoss could feel the knot in his stomach tighten. Graduation had been five years ago, Katie was five, the little girl looked really familiar…God, unless he had an evil twin out there… He felt dizzy and he took a sip of his coffee, praying that he could just, calm down or something. He was leaping to conclusions; he had to be. Katie’s nose didn’t look like his, did it? The hair was unmistakable; Hoss could recognize the curly, unruly mop anywhere. Fuck his life. “ Yeah, Pennsylvania is definitely off the face of the planet.” He said, somewhat absentmindedly. He felt his eyes follow Katie as she went to throw the cup away, just as asked by her mother. At least the girl was obedient; God only knew that a five year old Hoss probably would have stomped his feet about it. He felt a small, amused smile flick across his lips before he turned his attention back to Callie. “ You’re touring too? Merch is pretty cool. You like it?” God he was really putting off what he needed to ask her, wasn’t he. It didn’t matter though; he kind of just wanted to leave and disappear. Drop off tour or something. That would be douchey though…he had already been a big enough douche to Callie. She didn’t deserve that. Hayden grinned at her compliment, a somewhat cocky smile that only seemed to appear when his looks were being discussed. “ Ha, yeah, can’t help it. You know how I am with being in shape; I can’t stand myself otherwise. You look really great; you don’t even look like you’ve had a kid.” He really hoped she wouldn’t take that the wrong way…that would suck. But it just served as a bridge to go over to that dreaded question, the one he really didn’t want to ask but he knew, deep down, was in fact the truth. “ So, Callie. I have a question.” He paused, gathering himself. “ Is Katie, you know…mine?” He dropped his voice at the last word, just in case the little girl was close enough to hear him. He didn’t want the little girl to leap to conclusions, after all. If she was anything like him though, he knew she would. After all, Hoss was extremely good at that. i'm sitting here wishing for something that's missing. callie's mind raced as she tried to think up ways to tell hoss that katie was his child. he didn't seem to have gotten the hint quite yet. or maybe he had and was just dying to get out of the coffee shop and far away from his ex-girlfriend and his child. callie wouldn't blame him. the only thing that resembled callie was katie's eyes, which were dark brown much like callie's. she watched as katie skipped back towards her and hayden. the little girl giggled, then sat back down in her chair when callie quietly asked her to. she looked back at hayden as he talked about his old band, and nodded slightly. "oh... i'm sorry to hear that." callie murmured quietly. the band had been the cause of most of hayden and callie's fights towards the end of their relationship.
callie bit her lip softly as she heard him answer her question about if he was still touring or not. "yeah, i'm touring right now, actually." callie felt her heart almost stop... again. there was no way they were on the same tour. it was impossible. it was just a coincidence that both their tours had stopped in this area at this time of the year. but of course, callie knew there was definitely a great possibility that they were both on the same tour. if they were, in fact, on the same tour, wouldn't she have run into him sooner, though? he had said he was managing a band. didn't they work mostly with the band members backstage and on the tour buses? callie had almost never gone backstage, she stayed mostly by the merch tents, naturally. callie's thoughts were drawn to an end when he commented about pennsylvannia being off the face of the planet. she nodded slightly, shrugging.
"uh, yeah. merch is fun. you meet a lot of great people, see a lot of cool places. it's a blast." callie answered, smiling now. she really did like being a merch kid, even if the pay was almost nothing and she usually relied on the genorosity of others aka her beloved tip jar. callie watched as a cocky sort of a grin appeared on his features and he began to comment about what she'd said earlier about him being in great shape. she chuckled quietly. yeah, she did know how he was about health and staying in shape. callie was pretty much the same way; one of the main things that the two of them had bonded over in highschool. "you look really great. you don't even look like you had a kid." callie heard hayden say, and she smiled. "well, you're not the only one staying in shape." callie said, taking a glance back at katie to see what she was doing. the girl was playing with the muffin wrapper, entertaining herself the best she could by ripping it apart into pieces as small as she could get them to be.
callie had always done that as a kid; kept herself entertained with anything possible. ripping trash up, reading signs over and over until she'd memorized them... useless little actions such as those. katie was usually kind of spacey, especially when trying to entertain herself while callie was busy. and callista was extremely grateful for that when she heard hoss say he had a question for her. her stomach twisted into a huge knot; she could almost guess what he was about to ask. she nodded, urging him to go on and ask his question. and as soon as it was asked, callie bit her lip. "okay. before you get mad; you need to let me explain." she said to start off. callista took a deep breath, trying to calm the knot in her stomach that only seemed to be growing by the second. "katie... is... yours. and i meant to tell you, a lot sooner of course. but when we moved we all got new phones and i lost a bunch of people's numbers. including yours." callie explained, looking up at him. "and i even came here after she was born to look for you but one of your friends told me you were off touring or something and i... i never thought i'd run into you." callie realized she was rambling again, and she even felt tears burn her eyes. her voice was slightly shaky, and she took a deep breath to try and recompose herself. "a-and... i didn't think you'd wanna see me ever again after... after what happened." she added in, her voice going a little quiet now.

my life feels just like a dream i'm walkin on air LIVIN ON A PRAYERi look up at the sky and i feel like a millionaire tag: paige as callie word count: 863 notes: lmao niiiice. randomly passing out is fun d:To be honest, Hayden was tired of the small talk. A big part of him wanted to just up and leave; he didn’t want to deal with his ex or his kid. Another part of him wanted to do something so that he could get to know the little girl and, you know, be a part of her life. He knew what it was like to have a dad who you heard about and never saw and frankly, Hayden hated the man. It was a completely different situation…but he was afraid that if he left, Callie might attempt to turn Katie against him or something. He just couldn’t have that; he knew that there was no way he’d be able to live knowing that he had a kid out there who met him for five minutes at a coffee shop once. It just wasn’t okay with him. He was drawn from his thoughts from the sound of Callie’s voice, commenting on his situation with his old band. “It’s fine, Cal. Don’t worry about it; stuff happens. It’s not that big of a deal.
” He shrugged, glancing away from the girl in front of him for a moment. It was a sore subject; as much as Hayden said he didn’t care, he really did. It was just one of those things…he did realize that had he not gone and pursued his dream of being famous, he probably wouldn’t be having this conversation right now. Hell, he would probably have asked Callie to marry him years ago and Katie would have grown up knowing that he was her dad instead of mommy’s old friend. “ Well I’m glad you enjoy it. Lord only knows I couldn’t deal with it; too many annoying thirteen year old fan girls.” Hayden cracked a grin in amusement. He couldn’t deal with screaming little girls; he tried when he was famous and often times he would walk with a headache that was threatening to turn into a massive migraine. Callie had always been pretty patient though; that was something Hoss had always admired about her. He was usually the more fiery of the pair; always leaping to conclusions and slacking off on things he knew wouldn’t be that important where as she was the complete opposite of him. They had balanced each other out remarkably well; he would be a liar if he said he didn’t miss that. “ Yeah, I can tell. Like I said, you look great.” Hayden said, smiling. Most people he knew who popped out babies didn’t often attempt to try to get back to pre-baby baby and he was surprised that Callie had managed it. It was a good thing though; he wasn’t going to lie. Katie would appreciate that later in life when her mother was able to keep up with her and the crazy shenanigans the little girl would probably come up with. It was now the moment of truth and he wanted to roll his eyes in exasperation as Callie told him to not get angry. He wasn’t mad; he wasn’t even sure what he was to be honest. Mostly shocked, now that he thought about it. Yeah, he was really shocked that he apparently got a girl pregnant and didn’t know about it. He had just been living his life for the past five years, not really caring about consequences and whatever other shit that came along. He had no idea what his ex-girlfriend had been up to or the fact she was a single mom or any of that. Yeah, he hadn’t wanted to see her or talk to her or even think about her for the first year or two, but eventually he had grown up, gotten over it. All he could do was sigh and rub at his eyes with his hands, trying to wake up from whatever crazy dream this was. At least the sick feeling in his stomach seemed to have subsided a bit; that was a positive, right? It didn’t matter though because when he looked at Callie again, he immediately noticed that she was about to burst into tears and Hayden was at a loss of what to do. “ Callie, it’s okay, don’t cry. Please.” He said, words rushed. Part of him wanted to just reach out and hug her, much like he had always done back when they dated but he really didn’t want to cross any lines. “ I didn’t want to see you for a while, to be honest. But I grew up, Cal. Got over it. You should have kept trying…I mean. That’s my kid.” He took a deep breath, sighing heavily. “ It’s fine. I understand. But you do realize I want to be a part of her life, right? I’m not going to be some deadbeat dad you know. You deserve all the help you can get….God, you know what, I’ll give you my number before I leave. If you ever need anything…” Contrary to popular belief, Hayden really was a good person. Especially when it came to the fact that he apparently had a five year old daughter sitting just feet away who was busy entertaining herself with a muffin wrapper. i'm sitting here wishing for something that's missing. callie placed a hand against her forehead, sighing heavily. "momma..." katie said quietly. callie knew that tone; it was the tone that katie always used when she was looking for amusement. now that the little girl had succeeded in completely ripping up her muffin wrapper, she was bored and unamused. and callie could tell. "clean up your trash, katie. we'll be out of here soon." she told her daughter, trying to keep her voice level and not letting it shake like it had been before. katie nodded, gathering up the teeny tiny pieces of the muffin wrapper and getting out of her chair to skip back towards the trash can. callie looked back at hayden, biting her lip.
his words came out rushed as he told her it was alright; and not to cry. "no, hoss, it's not okay. i should've... i should've done more than that." she mumbled, biting down on her bottom lip. callie took a deep breath, trying to calm herself. she closed her eyes a moment, lifting a hand immediately to brush away the tear that had slipped out of her eye and down her cheek. the knot in her stomach was growing tighter and bigger. she suddenly felt terrible all over again; for not telling him sooner, of course. callie pushed her hands through her hair, opening her eyes now. she listened to him talk about how he'd gotten over it, and that she should've kept trying. well, she couldn't disagree with that. she definitely should've kept trying. she should've kept trying until she'd succeeded, because even though they'd had a huge falling out, he definitely deserved to know he had a daughter.
callie couldn't help but wonder if he actually understood and if it was actually all okay. she bit her lip, sighing heavily as she tried to calm the knot in her stomach. "well, i'm certainly not going to stop you from being a part of katie's life, hoss. i've already denied you the knowledge of her existence for the past five years." she said, looking up at him with a small frown. the knot in her stomach didn't seem to want to untwist itself, but instead, it grew tighter with her insides. as he told her that he was going to give her his number, callista nodded slightly. "that'd be great, hoss." she told him, smiling weakly now. "again, i'm so sorry... for not telling you." she said quietly, pulling out her phone. "here... just put it in there." callie said. she had pulled up the new contact window.
katie came back from the trash can, beginning to cling to her mother's side once more. "mommaaaa." she said, using the tone from before again. "kathryn, relax. mommy's almost done talking to hoss. then we'll go find something to do. i promise." callie told her daughter, stroking katie's unruly curls. katie pouted. "okay." she said quietly, burying her face in callista's side. callie continued to stroke katie's curls. it was the main similiarity between hayden and his daughter. it had always made callie smile. she'd always loved hayden's crazy, curly hair. so, naturally, she had been really happy when katie's hair turned out to be the same as his.

my life feels just like a dream i'm walkin on air LIVIN ON A PRAYERi look up at the sky and i feel like a millionaire tag: paige as callie word count: 812 notes: omg i'm sorry for taking so long. B| and fyi we can do whatever you want to after this thread hahaha. (:The sound of little Katie’s whining voice was a clue to Hoss that his time with his ex and his daughter – God, his daughter – was going to be coming to an end. He didn’t want it to; if anything, he just wanted to talk to Callie, like have a good deep legitimate talk, and catch up on the past five years. He wanted to know everything about his daughter, he wanted to see pictures, and he just wanted everything to be laid out on the table. That wasn’t too much to ask for, was it? Whatever, he could deal with this. He could. Even though it meant calling up his mom like the good son he was to ask her for her advice; the last thing Hayden wanted was to turn into his father. He turned his attention back to Callie, who he really was concerned was going to burst into a giant sobbing mess. He wanted to reach out, hold her hand, hug her, wipe that stray tear from her face, but instead he was silent, just watching her. “What happened, happened, Cal. You can’t change that now. All that matters is now. At least you told me she’s mine; it could have been worse. Good thing I felt like breaking my diet, huh?
” Making a joke out of things was Hoss’ usual defense when something was serious. Regardless, he did the only thing he could think of doing and that was to gently but his hand on her arm for a moment. “ I swear it’s okay, Callie. I swear. It’s gonna be okay now.” He had never been the best at comforting, especially when it was during times when he felt extremely numb, just like he did right now. Hayden felt as though a huge weight was lifted off of his shoulders when Callie agreed to his being apart of his daughter’s life. He understood what was happening and he sure as hell knew that it was going to hit him really, really hard later that day. But for now, he was perfectly alright with at least knowing the truth. “ Thank you, Callie. I appreciate it. I really do. Just do me a favor, babe, and stop frowning. This is good news right? You aren’t alone in this anymore…you know what I mean.” The old pet name slipped out of his mouth before he could stop himself and Hoss really hoped that Callie didn’t hear it or didn’t mind. He had been so ridiculously in love with the girl standing before him and frankly, it scared him that now, five years after their disastrous break up, he could stand here, fuck up, and call her babe. It baffled him. As she held her phone out to him, he took it with a small smile, carefully entering his name, ‘Hayden Boss’, just as he had seven years earlier when he had first given her his phone number. “ It’s fine, Callie. I understand; you tried at least. That’s all I can ask for. But hey, I meant it when I said to call me if you need anything. Even if it’s just to talk or you want a nap or you just want to go hang out with your friends. Anyway.” Once finished with inputting his number into her phone, he held the phone out to her before glancing in Katie’s general direction. As the little girl trotted back to her mother and began to whine again, he realized that it would probably be best for him to finally leave. “ I should let you go.” He said, finally after a moment of silence. He paused then squatted down once more so he was once again eye level with the bored little girl. “ It was very nice meeting you, Katie. You are seriously such a big girl; you waited so patiently. Do you think I could get a hug from you because I should probably get going and I’d be honored to get one from a cute little girl like you.” He offered the small girl a smile, wishing very hard that things could be different and he didn’t have to practically beg his own child to hug him. Being this close to her though was just weird; he could easily pick out some of her facial features that he recognize and the fact that she had his crazy curly hair that he had recently been keeping short due to the fact it reminded him too much of Callie and the way she had always played with it. God life had definitely changed a hell of a lot sense then, hadn’t it? Hayden finally stood up and shrugged, nodding towards the door. “ So I guess I’ll be seeing you in sooner than five years, am I right?” He asked feeling a small, teasing smile playing on his face. “ At least. I hope so.” [/blockquote][/blockquote]

i'm sitting here wishing for something that's missing. callie couldn't help but laugh quietly at his little joke about breaking his diet. he had always been jokative when it was time to be serious, something callie had always admired. she wasn't one to like facing serious situations, and it appeared he didn't like to either and it was another thing they'd bonded on. she felt her cheeks grow a bit warm as he called her 'babe.' she smiled to play it all off, pretending like she didn't even notice he'd called her the old pet name. she took her phone back, looking at the number he'd imputed. she locked the phone, putting it back into her pocket. she nodded as he explained that he meant it when he'd said to call him if callie needed anything. "i'll be sure to keep that in mind, ha-hoss." callie had almost called him 'hayden', but immediately corrected herself and called him 'hoss.'
callie watched him squat down and talk to katie, smiling. katie looked at hayden, smiling softly. she nodded. "it was nice meeting you too, hayden." she said, giggling quietly as the girl lept at him and hugged the boy around the neck. she pulled back after a moment, waving to him with a smile. she went back to clinging to callista's side, looking up at her mother now. callista bit her lip to hold back a smile. katie had always been outgoing and friendly to just about everyone. callie bent down, picking the small girl up and holding katie on her left hip. she was a little sad to say goodbye to hoss, and of course she planned on calling hoss... sooner than in five years. since they both had matured so much, it seemed fit the two catch up. and since hayden was now going to be a part of katie's life, shouldn't he know about who katie was?
but then her mind switched to her siblings. oh god, autumn and cameron were going to kill callie for even daring to associate herself with hayden again. oh, whatever, hayden had definitely matured and seemed to be over it like callie was. associating with him couldn't do much harm, could it? callie smiled brightly at hayden, while katie dropped her head against callie's shoulder, hiding her face once more as she whined quietly in callista's ear. "of course it'll be much sooner than five years." she said, tucking a bit of her hair behind her ear. "it was nice seeing you again. it's good to know you've been taking care of yourself. talk to you later, hayden boss." callista said, a small smile dangling on her lips. she got up her toes, pecking hoss' cheek before walking past him and out the door, talking to katie now.
